Why Is Fellowship Important?

Fellowship is what God wanted with His people from the very beginning. God had perfect fellowship with Adam and Eve for a while, but then things went awry. They disobeyed God and that fellowship got lost.

It was lost for a long time until God was able to have a son by way of a woman named Mary.  That son, Jesus Christ, was to set things straight again.  He had sinless blood but he also had the option of disobeying his Heavenly Father.

Fortunately for us, he never did disobey his Father and as a result, we arrived at Pentecost. From the Day of Pentecost, those of us who wish, may have God’s spirit in them and along with it, the ability to have fellowship with God.

Fellowship is a conditional situation because those of us who are born again of God’s spirit have to choose to have it, otherwise, we are just living by our sense knowledge, which means circumstance oriented, which really isn’t very much fun.

1 John 1:3, “That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.”

Fellowship with like-minded believers is also very important because what began on the Day of pentecost was the Church, the Body of Christ. That is the fellowship that we are a part of today.

When we speak about like-minded believers, we’re talking about born-again believers who live the Mystery, which is the gift of holy spirit, which includes the operation of the manifestations of holy spirit, which includes the ability to speak in tongues.

Ephesians 3:9, “And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things…”

The Mystery is the new birth, being born again of God’s spirit and then understanding what that means in your life.

Part of living the Mystery is fellowship with God and with fellow believers.

Fellowship with like-minded believers is important because the Mystery is not known or taught for the most part in the denominational world.

Being with people who can speak in tongues and understand the manifestations will be edifying for us because a fellowship is the only place where we can be with people who are spiritually like us.

This is what happened on the Day of Pentecost and then took off in the Book of Acts:

Chapter 2:42-47, “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. 44 And all that believed were together and had all things in common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. 46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart. 47 Praising God, and having favor with all the people.  And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.”

I would like to point out in Verse 47, the “breaking bread from house to house” which would imply fellowship.  The Word was taking off and people wanted to be around other people who loved God and wanted to see the power of God in their lives.

I would like to point out that the fellowship is the only place where that is going to be available: to be with people trying to live the mystery.

Acts 2:42-47 is the template of sorts of where we should be going with God’s Word, and they didn’t have the written Word at that point. What they had was God’s Word taught by the apostles and enthusiasm of the Apostles.

It must have been pretty high because Verse 42 of Chapter 2 tells us that about three thousand people were born again that day.  That’s outreach at its apex.

That’s why fellowship with God and with one another is very important.
